My Stahl Style 6

Post by John J » Thu Mar 16, 2017 12:28 pm

My twelfth guitar is finished. This one is from a Larson brothers design called a Stahl Style 6 from the mid 1920's. Plans through GAL. It's not an exact replica but more of an interpretation. I've had it strung up for about a week now and the sound is really beginning to open up.

The details:
Stahl Style 6 inspired
-Pau Ferro (Bolivian Rosewood) back and sides
-Sitka Spruce top
-Mahogany neck
-Spruce bracing (x bracing is a laminate of spruce/BRW/Spruce)
-Spanish cedar linings
-Maple bindings
-Rosette and purfling made from walnut, maple, redheart, yellowheart and some green dyed veneer.
-Ebony fingerboard with maple binding
-Bridge made from Brazilian rosewood
-Brazilian rosewood headplate
-East Indian Rosewood backstrap
-Mother of Pearl inlay
-Grover tuners
-Tru oil finish

Wonderful in every way, design, wood selection, book match of panels and your use of marquetry. Bravo!

Excellent build, John.
All seems right. The wood choices, the tight build and aesthetics . So well done!
And now we are very curious how the little sister sounds.
Let us hear if you can.

Thanks guys.
If you can overlook my playing I'll try to post some sound clips. Thte sound was disappointing initially. It has since opened up considerably. Not as loud but I suspect that has to do with the shallow body depth.
I bought a cheap lighting setup and a background. I figured I needed to up my photography skills.
