Works for me - fret barber

Post by Dave Bagwill » Sun Oct 23, 2016 6:39 pm

So I dropped some heavy cash on Stewmac and got the fret barber.
Used it today for the first time, and it does exactly what I want it to, which is to up my fretting game a notch.
This is not a tool that most people need, but it takes some anxiety out of what I do with my particular challenges - bad eyesight etc.
I'm happy with it. My fret slots are .022" and I usually press in or pound the frets and sometimes the barbs are just too wide. So today I ran the length of fretwire - 2' - through the fretbarber with the .022 shim - results still would involve a lot of pounding. Then to the .020 shim - better. Then the .018" shim - perfect. The frets press in with finger pressure - they don't just drop in though you could do that as well - but just a nice snug fit, and a drop of CA at either end and once again, Bob's your uncle. Perfect seating.
