Another interesting hand plane find

Post by Kevin in California » Mon Sep 19, 2016 2:11 pm

At today's local flea market, and friend/seller there GAVE me this block plane. I offered, he wouldn't take anything for it.
It is a Chaplins patent #30 block plane in very good condition other than a small chip out of the front left side wall. I'm pretty excited because I also have (purchased from this same guy for $15) a Chaplins Tower & Lyon jack plane of the same vintage, very early 1900's like before 1910.
It has an adjustable throat and the unique blade adjustment mechanism.
Anyway, these are not super common and I will clean it, sharpen it and use it I'm sure. :)
