An old neck I've had around - I want to use it on the 8-string - I reckon that metal piece is a locator but it is a b**** to try and remove.
Any ideas?

It looks like it would compress by using vise grips, and then pulled out. But you've probably tried that already...
The other thought I had would be to try using a 'damaged screw remover' bit.

Yeah the vice grips did not work - yet. I am tenacious however, in addition to being a chick magnet.

I'm retired, so each day is just another piece of bright-colored string in the rich tapestry that is me.

If you're worried about damage to the edge of your cutters use a pair of side cutters to remove them, that's what I do.
