I have a set of OM Indian Rosewood sides in the mega-mold that have developed black spots following the grain lines in many places. I'm ready to glue the neck and heel block, but thinking I should address this first, or at least have a plan for when I get to finishing some day.
Any suggestions on how to remove these dark spots? I'm not sure if they're caused by mineral deposits or bleeding of oils or resins in the wood or if all that's one and the same.
Over about a four week period it seems that the spots have become more prevalent, though I noticed them initially when I received the sides, which were from Martin. I have to admit that at one point I slightly wet the sides prior to placing them in the mold with an ill-fitting template, which I corrected. This raised the grain on the wood, I can tell, which I'd planned on smoothing out when the time came, but not sure if that contributed to this prevalence of strings of black spots here and there, or if it's just inherent in working with Indian Rosewood.
Any suggestions or advice for this novice would be greatly appreciated. I've attached photos. Many thanks!

Re: Removing Dark Spots (Mineral Deposits?) on Indian RW Sid
No big deal -- oil/resin -- common issue. Just scrap it off wipe with a little acetone.

Will do then. Good to know. Thanks, Ken.

Ya Kelly, these spots come from the heat of bending. The resin in the wood becomes fluid and flows to the surface. When you get to final sanding, you'll sand them off. Indeed, no worry.
Good luck
