Bending pipe heated with 6x6 Omega blanket
Re: Bending pipe heated with 6x6 Omega blanket
Why is the blanket hard wired to the outlet? The blanket and the pilot light are supposed to plug in -- at least that's how my design works. Not sure you looked or remember but I explained the wiring earlier in the thread. And more importantly where is the shut off timer? This thing is a fire hazard without one.

power cord White/common wire to the white side of the outlet --- Power cord black wire into the timer - black out of the timer into the dimmer - black out of the dimmer to the black side of the outlet. Tie all the greens together ---- done.
If you are using lamp cord the wire that is ribbed is the white/common. Don't over look this, the plug must be polarized to prevent the possibility of a shock. Especially working with metal and water.
The timer and the dimmer are single lead switches in series if either are open the outlet does not get current.

Okay, re-done per specs, ready to rock. This will be used for bindings, purflings, soundhole binding etc.

Ready to go - couple questions.
Do you heat it up slowly, or turn 'er up to heat fast, and then back off as you approach final temp?

I keep mine at the same temp all the time just under 300 degrees -- no muss no fuss.

So - just find the dimmer location that provides 300 degrees, mark it, and when you want to use the pipe, plug it n and turn the dimmer to that same spot, and wait?
