What are the attributes of an american sound and a European sound??
I wonder if american sound in Herman's customers ears is defined by the big D sized guitars. I find the big Martin's have strong bass and strong trebles and sort of fall out in the middle strings. I know the bluegrass people look for a very distinctive sound.
The two Lowden guitars I hear in the video seem much more balanced across the strings, and to my ears a tighter sound (maybe cleaner).

Perhaps the European sound can be attributed to the open string and alternate tunings favored by the performers from that region?
