My "Norman Blake OM

Post by John J » Fri Apr 01, 2016 3:53 pm

Finally finished this one and strung her up a few days ago. This is the slightly modified version (body length shortened at the upper bout by 1/2" because of my measuring mis-adventure. The bridge is pushed further down by that much. It sounds really full and crisp.
The particulars:

Guitar #6
Norman Blake style OM
25.4 scale
Figured cherry back/sides
Engleman Spruce top
Mahogany neck
Tamarind rosette
Tamarind head plate
Leopardwood binding
B. Rosewood/cherry bridge
Katalox fingerboard
Mahogany kerfing
Spruce braces
Gold MOP inlay[/quote]

Wow. Another good one, JJ!

-How is that Katalox to work with? Is it a porous wood?
-That Cherry is beauteous as well - did you stain it or just clear-coat it? Nice.
-Under permanent construction

Thanks Dave
Katalox is heavy and dense. Not porous and similar to ebony as far as workability. Just brown dust instead of black.
No pore fill. Just blonde Royal Lac. I'm learning to French polish.

Really impressive mate! I love the binding.
