Pure and utter nonsense imo

Post by Dave Bagwill » Sat Feb 27, 2016 12:07 pm

A waste of $20K? For the extra $4,995 one could buy something that sounds as good or better, plays as well or better, and you wouldn't be afraid to scratch it. OTOH some people can afford to indulge in silliness. Am I being too harsh?

Harsh?

$25k is a hefty price to pay for a git, but then there are those $100k Martins ...

Olson is a well known builder, and it is the law of the market that we must pay more for work by someone well known. But being well known, in itself, does not change anything about the instrument. I suspect it is well made, sonically speaking, as it certainly is, craft speaking. However, I was not too impressed by the slabby BRZ back, given the $25k price tag. For that kind of money, I would want to indulge my fetish for quarter sawed everywhere, even if it does not change the sound.

Compared to $5,000 per pair designer shoes, $25,000 for a well made git does not seem any more silly, maybe less. And like the guitar, one would not want to damage the surface in any way by mere use of the shoes. Indeed, expensive is as expensive is treated:

Oh come on, John, those are some RIGHTEOUS shoes!! :-)

The bridge on the git is lackluster as well, I agree about the BRW.
A $100K guitar is so out of my perception of reality that I could more easily understand the mathematics of gravitational anomalies, than I could understand anyone paying that amount of $.
