Stainless steel fretwire

Post by Herman » Sun Nov 29, 2015 4:20 am

My current OO is for the man who has another guitar of mine. He playes a lot on it and within 2 year he did wear out the frets heavily. My thought is to try stainless steel fretwire on the OO.

I know there are downsides to this wire, but I would like your comment on these fretmaterial.
Thanks Herman

I worked a little with stainless. I like them on the guitar. I have read that being harder it is easier to slide a string. I guess this can be good or bad depending on the player and their technique. My technique is not fine tuned enough that it made any difference at all. I have heard other say there is a slightly different sound.

The one downside for me was finding snippers hard enough to cut the frets without being damaged. I have some now bought from some Japaneses tool manufacture.

I ended up going in between and use the EVO frets with a hardness half way between SS and normal frets.
