One way to quickly install side supports

Post by Dave Bagwill » Mon Nov 09, 2015 3:27 pm

Materials: thin CA, CA accelerator, side support material, saw, ruler, 3x5 card, sandpaper (to clean up - I use a cheap 1" 80 grit belt from HF. I cut a piece of it a few inches long, bend it in half, and it makes a stiff sharp bend that cleans up the ca right to the support in just moments)

This goes quickly and cleans up easily.
Use the 3x5 card to locate the side support positions
Measure and install one at a time - measure, cut the piece, apply some accelerator to the gluing side of the piece, hold the piece in position on the rim and add a drop or two of CA on one side - I use the side away from the soundhole as often as possible. The accelerator captures the CA immediately, so it does not spread all over the place.
Done with that one - move on to the next. It takes me 10 minutes or so.

Then I go back and drop a bit more CA just to make sure everything is glued. Then I use the folded 1" belt to quickly clean up the CA residue. The first pic shows my first attempt yesterday, the other side went more neatly as I got control of the process.
