Substitute for Titebond?

Post by dave d » Mon Jan 30, 2012 8:21 pm

I've been to 4 local hardware stores and none of them carry Titebond glue. Looking for suggestions for a substitute. There is a white glue called Weldbond (quite pricey btw, so perhaps that is an indication of quality?), as well as Elmers, and lots of brands of woodworkers glue.

thanks,
Dave

Order Titebond on line from the Woodcraft store -- it will be fresh. Elmer's carpenters is close but the glue line dries very dark. I really recommend you use the regular Titebond.

No Lowes or Home Depot nearby? They carry it.

The local Home Depot doesn't carry it, but I have not checked Lowes yet. It's a bit of a drive, but I have to go check out some other things anyway. Thanks Tony and Ken.

Lee Valley, Busy Bee, and Home Hardware may, don't know if there are any of those near you. Some have said they only carry Titebond III, which is not a substitute. Good luck!
So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

Did you try checking the "Where to Buy" link on their website?

I've checked out a few of the woodworking sites I respect, and their testing, which was well-controlled as far as I can tell, came out with - surprisingly - Weldbond as the strongest for wood. It also dries completely clear, supposedly.

Maybe Ken will weigh in on this, I seem to remember an old post by him on the subject. I'm thinking it might be a good glue for laminating sides. Any ideas?
