Slotted headstock neck build questions
Slotted headstock neck build questions
I'm working on my scratch neck for my fourth guitar. It's a 12 fret to the body size 2 Martin style with a slotted headstock. Lots of firsts for me. I was planning on a 12 degree angle. From what I glean from various sources that is the angle Martin used. What's the pros/cons on this? Also should the finished thickness be 3/4" or should it be 3/4" plus veneers? And finally should the nut sit on the slope?

Re: Slotted headstock neck build questions
12 degree is fine as the string is not going to a post; so the smaller angle is OK. I have done nuts on the slope and not on the slope. Other than having to match the angle on bottom of the nut, I have not noticed much difference on the finished guitar. I just follow the plans that I have.
I am not sure about the thickness question. 3/4" plus veneers seems thick to me.

My plans tell it is 3/4", veneer included.
