Side struts or side popsicle stick braces....

Post by Michael_K » Mon Aug 03, 2015 7:57 pm

Hi,

Are the side struts necessary if you are planning on using Zpoxy to pore fill? Wouldn't the resin strengthen the wood enough where you would have to worry about side cracks splitting down the side.

Regards,

Michael

Epoxy without reinforcement cloth is just a surface finish -- to make a difference and help prevent "car key cracks" you really need cross grain reinforcements, cloth is OK wood is better. Plus Zpoxy is a relatively soft finishing resin not a glue.

Thanks Ken.

It took 20 minutes for the wood struts. Nice neck BTW. I really like it.
