Second build, a KMG 00 14 fret kit
Second build, a KMG 00 14 fret kit
I've just started my second kit, a 00 14 fret maple kit with rosewood fingerboard and accents. I'm using Ken's Mega Mold (because of all the rave reviews) for the first time. So far I'm liking it. I'll probably post a lot of pictures because, well, I like to. I know I enjoy seeing progress pictures so I hope I'm not overdoing it. I'm also starting a third one (this is addicting!) that I'll document separately. That will be my first scratch build (mostly).

Looks like you are off to a great start. Nice shaped body.

That's going to be a beauty!
I'll note for previous KMG kit builders that I've gone to a Baltic Birch tail block on most of our models. I like the strength and stability aspect, it does not need the vertical 1/8" reinforcement. It makes it a bit easier to install end pins and pick up jacks -- and there is no chance it will split horizontally.

Re: Second build, a KMG 00 14 fret kit
Got the top and back contoured. Love the Mega Mold! Trimmed and test fitted the rosette. This is a wood rosette and I'm wondering what the best glue might be. Also with the black I'm worried about sanding and bleeding black into the top. Love to hear thoughts.

If the rosette is a snug fit Duco is always a good choice. On the other hand a water base adhesive like Elmers tends to puff the sound board wood in affect shrinking the channels making a tighter fit. So if its a close fit to begin using the water base glue could be problematic making it difficult to get the rosette installed after glue application.
