Martin o-28vs bridge placement

Post by rusty999 » Tue May 05, 2015 5:54 am

Can anyone advise me where the bridge should be placed on a Martin 0- 28 vs type acoustic guitar.
I did the usual measuring to the 12 fret and double it plus 2mm etc and it looks like that would put the bridge very low down on the body -- towards the tailblock
The specs say 24.9 scale. I have lost the old drawing I had of the specs for building the guitar. has anyone here build one of these and any info on bridge placement would be very welcome

Your measurement of twice the the nut to 12th distance plus 2 mm will place the saddle at the high E position. A 12 fret does push the bridge down relative to the look of a 14 fret to the body.

Thanks John, Am I correct in assuming the low E should be double the distance between nut and 12th fret , and then around 6mm compensation ?

Actually I miss calculated for a steel string I double and add 1/8" or closer to 3mm to the leading edge of the saddle high E. I square the bridge to the centerline. If my bridge has a preslotted saddle that is it. I glue down the bridge. If I am going to slot the saddle after I glue it down then I add another 1/8" for the low E, draw a line between the 2 E positions and route the tail side of the line.

So 3.175 mm to leading edge of High E and 6.350 mm to leading edge of low E.
