I had the good fortune of sitting in a very small venue in Angel's Camp (a California Sierra-Nevada town) for a concert by Blake and his wife. No frills, just him sitting on a stool, picking and singing, and it was for me a wonderful and genuine American folk-music experience.

He was very intense when he sang Railroad Days (best song in the set):

Number 9 ain't running well she rolls no more
No you can't hear her mightly roar
Goddamn you semis, won't you pull your load
Cause you surely killed my railroad
-Under permanent construction
