Sounds to me like an amplified sound from an UST. Didn't care for the change at all but that's just me.

A heavier anchor for the strings predict more sustain. That is obvious to me. But as the strings vibrate longer they give less energy to the top. so does it sound better? I don't know.
Somogyi writes in one of his books: A compromise between sustain on one hand and volume on the other. (Assuming that the transfer between saddle/bridge and the top is proper.)
On the side:
On my neighbours bass we at first had a massive ABS brass bridge. Lots of sustain.
Later on we mounted a Fender shitty bended tin-can-material bridge. Maybe lesser sustain, but o boy what a better sound. Groooovy.
