What's on your bench?

Post by Kevin in California » Tue Jan 06, 2015 2:14 pm

Here is what I've got going now before I put the finish on my crossover, and start the next guitar, which will be a classical.
This is a WWII Japanese Officer's Katana which belongs to a friend of mine, given to him by his uncle who brought it back from the war. One of tens of thousands apparently.
I am going a mini restoration on it, going to try and not alter the originality of it.
Polish the blade, fill the cracked areas and re-lacquer the scabbard, and possibly strip the colored lacquer off the metal brass parts, polish and clear lacquer them. That is up to the owner. A lot of hand work as the the blade polishing is all hand work.
I will show some pics as I go along. I just dissasemble and started on the blade on New Years Day.

What do you have on your bench today?

I don't have anything as interesting as THAT, for sure!

But I do have the greatest and most wonderfullest of all Rulers ever made, in any possible world or time-line. My new red woodpecker ruler.
I would post a picture but the effect on you fellas would be too profound; all the air leaves the room as you gaze at the pic, all worldly sounds fade far away, you touch your monitor screen and moan words of praise and wonder, caught between an ever-mounting exhilaration and the abyss of fear - that perhaps there will never be another ruler like it available to you.

I can also use it as a sword. LOL.

Ah that is a fine measuring device I'm sure. Is its nick name Woody?

Being as how it is aluminum, "Woody" probably not appropriate? Maybe 'Al"? :-)

In any case, it is a good ruler. Easy to read, has a nifty ruler stop at one end, and since it was on sale I don't feel too bad about putting out the $. I actually measure 3 times now before cutting. :-)

But it is not as cool as the sword you are working on.

On mine is a breakfast knife. Tadaaaa!!!!
Think about losing it, 'cause it scratches the guitars.
