Bending pipe construction

Post by peter havriluk » Tue Dec 16, 2014 1:36 am

I noticed that Ken 'strongly suggests' (my words) bending the waist of guitar sides on a pipe before doing the rest of the bending with a Fox-style bender. So...I am allergic to the idea of open flames, like propane torches, running in my cellar if they can be avoided. An electric pipe bender it will be. On a timer. Can someone suggest a straightforward pipe bender construction narrative I can follow? Made out of commonly available stuff, no wonderful tools made with a mil-spec surplus hunk of tubing made out of unobtainium?

Thanks very much.

Many times its helpful to look at the arrangement and the titles of the board index as if it were a text book and check out the various threads -- this is by design to make it easy to get info and ideas for a particular topic or issue.

Peter I have one I built. See picture. There is an electric charcoal lighter pinched down to fit inside the pipe. Aluminum foil ball is stuffed in the end to hold the heat in. The controller is a light dimmer, however I found that I always used it at full temp. That is aluminum pipe but you can use steel, copper...but stay away from galvanized.
Do you get the idea?

Ken, thanks for the reminder, and Kevin, thanks for the outline. Looks like a good start.
