Mine look a little different -- have not had one burn out. Not sure it applies, but you "must" have the blanket is almost full contact with an object -- or it will over heat and burn up. The are really made to glue to the surface of a vessel, drum or metal container. Its my understanding they were invented during the "race for outer space" era.

The guy at omega said the same about them being in full contact with something.which it was. Mine is SRFG-636/5 240 volt version. This is the mat the omega o people said they had sold to luthiers in the past so hopefully the first was a dud and the creases don't matter.
