Petrzelka #3 Ziricote and Sitka 00-12

Post by Daniel P » Wed Dec 03, 2014 11:30 am

My first KMG 00-12 in walnut and sitka was such a hit, I have had another goof friend ask me to build him a custom guitar.

The specs we know so far:

00-12 short scale built to the KMG template.
Ziricote back and sides
Sitka top
1/4" Sitka Bracing
Slot head
Ebony fingerboard
Pyramid Bridge
Modified snowflake inlay - Pau Abalone
Pau Abalone purfling on top ( not around fingerboard extension)
French polish finish

Still need to work out the binding scheme, rosette (which will include Pau), neck wood, headplate, headstock inlay, and other finishing touches.

It was really great to invite someone to pick a top from my very modest wood pile, talk about balancing tap tone with appearance, and what they might expect from each piece. An fun to see that huge smile when he found the one he wanted.

Yes, thats a dread outline on the back, I'll be slimming down the light sap wood for the 00.

Daniel, that is very promising. I find that ziricote so appealing. But I hesitate to get it because it is so expensive.
And that is just sitting there in your modest woodpile? You lucky b....

Herman - the ziricote was ordered by my friend just for this instrument, I couldn't justify building myself one with it yet, let alone have it sitting around.
What I did have in my little dehumidified closet was several sitka spruce tops for him to choose from.

That is a very nice back. It will make a stunning guitar.
