I've not played an all-mahogany instrument - how would you characterize the sound of a good one (not a cheapie?)
Do you like the sound?

Re: All-hog guitars
I've only seen/played one. It was a Martin OOO. I thought it was woody, a bit bright and not alot of projection.
I've thought about doing an all sapele back sides top for the fun of it.

This one sounds pretty good through headsets. Definitely more up-front than eir/spruce for example, sacrifices some complexity. Kind of between a good ladder braced and an x-braced.
I like it. I wonder about the sapele - do it, man!!

A good slow tune: http://youtu.be/jo-B2o439Gk

Sweet sounds. Sapele character is supposed to be similar to hog so should work man. Maybe about 3 projects down the pike
Re: All-hog guitars
I am not a huge fan of Honduran Mahogany sound boards -- D17's to my ear are much brighter than the more common Spruce top D18's. I think the out put in more homogenized as well -- I believe recording techs much prefer to work with the D18's even over D28's.
Now Sapele is physically much different than Honduran or African Mahogany it weighs 15% more and the interlocking grain ( I hate that) this makes it much stiffer, these are reasons the sound from a D17 differs so much. Plus as compared to Sitka Spruce even the Honduran is 55% heavier!
