Computer question - rss

This has nothing to do with this site or guitars, it is just a plea for help. :-)

I'm subscribed to a few threads on some blogs, and I'm looking for a very simple rss alert - not a reader, I have no use for that, nor do I want email alerts, they're a hassle - but a menu bar light, or something turning red, any dang thing that is small and does that one thing - alerts me when there is a change to the subscribed topic.
Firefox browser, using live bookmarks.

Shot in the dark, but mebbe someone has an idea or a link?
