Buffing procedure?

Post by Paul C » Fri Oct 24, 2014 7:21 pm

I was wondering if someone could share their buffing process . Do you guys buff? I'm getting started but really don't have a clue. A friend of mine works in auto body I don't know if it's the same buffing wood I would think it is similar though. I am talking to him this weekend to see what their process is.

Paul,

What kind of finish are you using and are you thinking a buffing by hand or a buffing wheel.

I'm using Waterlox original. Have rubbed 10 light coats on so far and is lookin pretty good. I would like to try a buffing wheel but if hand buffing is just as good and a bit simpler I could go that route since you mentioned it. Just not sure how. There is so much info on this it really makes it more confusing than it probly is. One say this way another says that way. That's Why I ask you guys.

Any progrssive buffing polishing system should work just fine. However, as usual I recommend that you contact Waterlox tech support who would know better? I do know that WL is tung oil so you must wait at least a month for cure longer is better.

Thanks Ken. I do have some time to learn more. I was not thinking a month for cure. Advice well taken! .Is true oil the same cure time also. I'm sure Dave would answer or probly did already

Tru-Oil is more of a varnish than an oil, and the cure time is much different - under good conditions, that is, under 50% humidity and 60 degrees or warmer - a week is sufficient.
Ray may want to chip in on this as well...

Thanks Dave . Next time tru oil for sure. I always jump ahead and do things too quickly. Live and learn. But hey it's only month!. I did buy some tru oil and put a few layers down on some scrap pieces and it looked the same as the waterlox so I just went with that cause I have a quart to use up O well. Thanks for chiming in
