Wood i.d. please

i usually mark my boards, but this one has been around awhile and I'm not sure what it is. It is a hardwood,.
Any ideas?

That's my best guess John, and I just checked it against some scraps of known walnut that I dug out, and it's a close match, so I hereby pronounce it 'walnut'!

Walnut will have a slight "chocolate" scent when cut.
