Cleaning before finish

Post by Paul C » Fri Sep 26, 2014 10:54 am

What do you guys wipe down the wood with before the first coat of finish is applied? To clean every thing up. I have blown with compressed air but wondering if I should do more?

Naptha is great. Be sure your air lines are free of oil if using compressed air. Compressor oil on the wood can bring unpleasant surprises later in fishing.

Since I apply Tru-oil with my bare finger and steel wool between coats I really don't clean the wood at all. Run the SW over it and wipe with a Terry cloth and begin. My finger grease is mixed up with the oil. But I do wash my hands before applying the oil. Afterwards too.

Is this regular naphtha from Home Depot or speciality stuff from SM.
