1966 Gibson

Post by Paul C » Thu Sep 18, 2014 8:49 pm

Had a chance to play one of these today. It was the same year I was born that's why it caught my eye. So it was in really good shape and the price was 2500 dollars. I handled it gently and played a few chords and riffs and was pretty impressed by its tone and feel nothing like I've ever played before. The finish was completely checked from top to bottom. Really cool guitars can last such a long time and still play and sound decent.

Was it the big-bodied fella or one of the smaller ones?

I believe this was a drednaught but he said it was a slim neck. I will be going back there so I will get the model

I have a friend with that guitar, and I've played it and liked a lot.

Buy a new one made in Montana -- much better construction and better sound quality. Most likely that guitar has a plastic screwed on bridge with an equally goofy ceramic adjustable saddle. Plus a brand new one is only $2100!!

It's a J-50. A J-45 has a sunburst, the J-50 is the exact same guitar without the burst.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the bridge is most likely rosewood and the original saddle was rosewood as well. So that white saddle means the original has been replaced.
I've "Ben-Had" again!
