KMG Ditson - Walnut and Sitka Spruce
Re: KMG Ditson - Walnut and Sitka Spruce
Just in case I hadn't mentioned it - Ken, I love the walnut for this back, the dark and light striations are really great. Thank you.

Herringbone rosette is in.

Removing the backstrip with a 1/4 down spiral bit worked beautifully - great care was taken to precisely position the router/alignment rail. I'll post a photo of the new backstrip this evening.
Re: KMG Ditson - Walnut and Sitka Spruce
I'm sure you all know by now, but I like to keep my tools sharp.
I installed the backstrip by routing about halfway through the already joined back seam. Once glued and dry I plane down the over height strip with a low angle block plane. For this I use a 38 degree bevel, with the 12 degree bed giving a 50 degree angle of attack. When properly sharpened the fine curls just pour out of the plane.

Re: KMG Ditson - Walnut and Sitka Spruce
wow was there any inlay left? thats alot of shavings
Re: KMG Ditson - Walnut and Sitka Spruce
There should be plenty inlay left - it started at .125" thick, and is inlayed only about 1/2 the thickness of the back, so I likely removed about .080" +/-
