I just bought last night a bottle of Titebond translucent wood glue, supposed to be the same as their original except this is white glue, and drys clear. I used it last night on an end wedge and to glue up a scarf joint, and they both look really good.
Since the LMI white glue is no longer available, this might be a good alternative if you don't want that yellow glue look.

Glued on front and back headstock veneers and it is still looking good. Grab time is pretty short in the heat of my shop at around 90 degrees!
Tonight I'll be gluing the stacked heel and a wood rosette using this glue.

Something I've found to be important with PVA (any brand) is to coat both surfaces (I believe that is indicated on the labels). This way even though a glue may have quick tack and fast dry characteristics the glue will get absorbed at the molecular level -- and this is very important. It is my opinion that the idea that you can over clamp and squeeze all the glue from a joint is pretty much a bunch of bunk. If the joint was starved there was simply not enough glue applied in the first place.
