That's also a good point, Tony. I had a little Larivee 10 years ago or so that I sold. They guy who came over to try it out - I left him in the living room and I went up into the loft to give him some space - he played the CRAP out of that thing. It was LOUD. He was also fast and musical. Point is, when I hear guys playing in a guitar shop, and they sound good, they are generally playing and picking hard on that thing. They can play soft also, but generally they put the pedal to the metal to see what she can do. It's like: sustain? We don't need no stinkin' sustain or shimmery sheets of sound or nuances of attack and all that stuff. Just play it hard and hear its voice.
Not that fingerpickers don't do that; but we're a gentler more sophisticated lot, aren't we?? :-)
