Gore style SS Guitar with Falcate braces. New Video.

Post by John Parchem » Mon Jul 07, 2014 6:03 pm

Well I still have some set up work to do. But I like to wait a couple of days to dial it in. I will get a video upbut wow it is loud, wonderful sounding treble strings right to the highest note, deep base. Pretty even tone across the strings. This is the first time stringing the guitar. The saddle and nut are close enough that the guitar is playable. I will do a real setup later in the week.

Designed using Medium Size SS Guitar plans and instructions from Gore\Gilet Contemporary Acoustic Guitar Design and Build books.

Lutz Spruce top
Australian Blackwood Back
Hawaiian Koa Sides
Cocobolo bindings and headstock veneer
Claro Walnut rossette
Walnut bridge ebonized with vinegar\Steel wool solution
Ebony Fretboard
Carbon Fiber falcate bracing
Built to have a live back.
Body Finished with Zpoxy pore fill, shellac wash coat, and EM6000.
Neck was French Polished

You can hear it listening to the two Falcate SS clips on http://soundcloud.com/johnparchem

Great work John.

Just how loud is it? Can't wait to find out more about that. Studies show that the typical human, given a loud sound compared to a soft one otherwise the same, prefers the loud one unless it is too loud. Acoustic guitars don't ordinarily sound "too loud", which is not always the case on the dark side.

Thanks John and Ken!

John, mainly it is loud compared to my day to day 00 guitar I play. I think also that it is louder than the last dred I built.

She is a real beauty. I still want to see you do the reversed color scheme of your headstock inlay on the back of the headstock!

Extraordinary, great work, as always. Good log,
Does it sound like a "guitar"? Or is there something different to the sound?

Thanks Tony, I have quite a collection of the white hawks now, I have been taking them to the wall in my shop.

Thank you Herman, It sound like a real steel string guitar. I am not quite sure how to describe the sound. There is clear separation between the notes. The guitar has a lot of volume playing finger style. My OO has a warmer sound but compared to this guitar it sound a bit muddy. This guitar sound really open, it has a lot of resonance but the fundamental notes still punch through.

As soon as I get comfortable with the guitar I will post some sound clips.
