Great place mat, good for wood, bad for finish

In an officestore I found this anti-slipmat for 1 euro.
It's a open rubber covered fabric 13" wide. Very soft feel.
It works great as a surface to put the guitar on and not scratching the plates while working on the other side.
Currently it is used on a cedar topped guitar and since start using it, I have no dents or scratch anymore.
I love this one. I guess in the US you can find something similar.

Herman;I've seen that stuff somewhere. My wife bought a yoga mat I think will work out as well. I've pretty much finished the little Ukelele I made for the little girl. I put the first coat of finish on it (Tru-oil) from what I understand EIR is notoriously slow drying. But think I'll use her yoga mat.

You can buy it here in most RV supply's, Wal-mart and even $ stores...bare wood is fine...just be aware that it will absolutely RUIN a lacquer finish, even if it is long set...
I laid a Tele body that I had finished 5 years ago on the stuff to keep it in place while I wired it and installed the neck etc.
It imprinted the exact pattern on the back...I couldn't rub it out...none of the finishing compounds I've used including 3M...I tried using the finer grits of Micro Mesh up to and including 12000...to no avail...I decided to experiment because I had nothing to loose, so I sanded the back down and tried to clear coat it again...nope....still there... I had to take it apart, sand it all down to bare wood and start over...I was not happy!
Got a guitar your going to refin? Try it...you'll see what I mean....don't know what it will do with other finishes but I'd sure do a test before I used it.....02

Wow Ray; I've heard enough. I've been useing a thick Terry cloth Bath Towel. It's been working fine. Think I'll stick with that.

I had a black mat that looked like that one and it ruined a lacquer finish. I am a bit gun shy now. The stuff I had was from a marine store.
