What? No Introductions sub-forum?

Post by Jim Ball » Wed May 28, 2014 10:58 am

I guess this will have to do! so, Howdy from the southeastern corner of Kansas! :D

I've yet to build my first guitar, although I am working toward that goal by collecting books and blueprints, acquiring & making specialized tools, etc. I've made a number of other musical instruments ranging from Native American style flutes to hammered dulcimers, thumb pianos, an autoharp - even a Hurdy Gurdy. :)

I'm currently working on a set of four mountain dulcimers, after which I'll start psyching myself up to tackle a guitar. My interest is primarily classical guitars.

Welcome to the forum, Jim!

From the looks of that shoddy-looking and inferior build, you're going to have a rough time building even the most rudimentary guitar.'

Ok, that was an utter lie. That's a gorgeous piece of work, and I fully expect you to put out a very nice guitar. And anyway, anyone who has built a hurdy-gurdy is almost a hero already!

Thanks for the welcome! The Hurdy Gurdy is a relatively simple one built from Musicmaker's blueprints. Here's my Youtube video of it right after I finished it.

Well that was interesting. I'd never actually heard one - after listening to you I took a gander at some of the vids on side of the youtube page - to my surprise, it can be quite the solo instrument as well.
