Which planes for brace tapering and scalloping?

I use the Ibex 8mm round (convex).

I bought a set of those HF planes, $10 less the 20% coupon. I spent an hour on them making sure the bottoms were flat, and sharpening the irons, and they cut pretty well. They are not my "go to" planes but they will work if needed.
I still stand by my handmade brace shaper plane.

My only problem with the Stephen Boone plane (http://www.studioboone.com/guitars/fingerplane.html) is that, since there is not way other than the wedge to keep the blade in place, I'm having to re-set the blade depth over and over again. That's why I'm thinking about the ibex, that locks the blade in place.

Maybe it's just my faulty technique?
