Re: Tim Crain's J185
Thanks Dave, I am really liking the sunburst (2nd try) but will try to avoid it on future builds. The masking off adds so much time to the finish but it sure helps if you have defects to cover up. My sides had "wrinkles" on the tight waist curves so the burst "fixed" that. I wouldn't be surprised if that is not the reason it was developed years ago.

Looking good!
Did you apply the finish with the neck attached?

Re: Tim Crain's J185
Yes, the neck was attached prior to shooting the finish. The neck joint is a dove tail so I wasn't sure as to how to attach it after the body was finished, may be it can be done. I know that the guitars built with the bolt on neck are usually finished in 2 pieces which would make the spraying, sanding, and rub out easier. Does anyone finish the neck and body separately using a dove tail neck joint?? Might be something good to know for the next one.

Yes its the normal process "neck - body separate" and why I asked -- I guess the first good example would be the Martin factory.
