Hello Ricci,
Like you, I had looked at a variety of information sources when I first thought about building a guitar. The information out there is overwhelming, to be honest. I acquired books, watched videos on-line, talked to guys in guitar-repair shops, looked at a few forums, you name it. It's in my nature to collect a lot of data and then analyze it, but that can be paralyzing after a while because there are many ways to do things, and a ton of conflicting information, or just bad advice out there.
This forum greatly simplified things, because it is affiliated with Ken's tried-and-true methods that work great whether you are a beginner or veteran. Most people here have used his guidelines and/or bought his kits, so there's a wealth of experience that can provide support for any questions that arise.
To sum it up, this is the place to be, because there is a community that has been there and wants to help, so you don't have to worry about jumping in and starting to build. The peace of mind that this affords is extremely valuable, because it de-risks the prospect of making your very own instrument.

Welcome Ricci, if you stick around you will learn a lot, and most likely have a good time with the banter that goes on here. When you are ready to pull the trigger on your guitar making, be sure to talk to Ken about the kits he offers.
As we are able, we are all willing to help you along with the process, but Ken is the pro around here.

Hi Ricci,

Can you tell us a bit about yourself. I do find this a very friendly forum, and you can get a lot of help, both from us amateurs and professionals. Take some time and go through the build blogs, there are a lot of first time guitars. It will give you a chance to see what other went through on their first.

Of course it is the membership (ours is awesome!!) that makes for a good forum. Here there is a wiliness to share experience and ideas without the unnecessary condescending edge sometimes observed at the other guitar making forums. Like guitar construction itself I would hesitate to characterize which building method or forum is the best. I believe there is value to be gleaned from all. I do think that our forum is organized in an unique manner allowing for much easier searching out of information to address a particular issue or problem.
