With a sharp carbide flush trim bit and a laminate router I carefully followed the recommended routing pattern to avoid tearout - worked wonderfully.
Just getting started when I took this photo - the routing turned out smooth and even everywhere except at the neck block where I had to manual sand off some of the overhang. The angles of the back and top canted the router enough that it did not trim flush - further reinforcing all of Ken's information about proper routing for binding - but I'm not there yet.

Put together a simple shooting board for use in shaping the wedge.

Wedge glued, trimmed and scraped flush with a cabinet scraper - then wiped on a little shellac to get a look at the figure.
