Jacks #3 OOO-14

Post by Jackspt28 » Sun Jan 12, 2014 10:20 pm

This one (#3) is a project between projects, Kind of a practice build. I have been collecting some tone wood and bits and pieces for future projects. I have also built some tools and molds and bought a drum sander.

I bent some Indian Rosewood sides for the first time about a month ago and figured I would build another 000-14 fret since I really loved the first one I built for a gift.

The top is from my 2nd build (kmg dread) as I substituted a Bear claw top on that build, braces are from Martin as well as the mahogany neck.

I liked the sound port on my first build so I cut one out on this one too. Found a neat looking clip art silhouette of an eagle on the internet so I print it out stuck it to the side and milled it out with my air die grinder that I use for inlays. Prior to cutting it out I reinforced the backside of the area with fiberglass and West systems epoxy.

Your guitar does not look like a practice build to me. The sound port is great nice job with the die grinder. I think if I tried that I would have ended up with an oval a little bigger than the eagle.

The Eagle looks great. I'm a little concerned about the little section between the feet. You might want to support that on the back side to strengthen that little piece so it can't break out to easily. Very nice though

Sure hope it doesn't but I agree with your assessment.

Understood guys, I do have two layers of 3 oz. fiberglass on the back side. Feels pretty strong. Thanks for the compliments, Jack.
