Handcut Rasp

Post by Herman » Mon Jan 13, 2014 1:49 pm

Recently I bought this rasp from SM.

A long story could be told, but in short: IMO it is great. Cuts smooth without effort.

What brand is that, Herman? How much for all 3? I need some good rasps.

They are from Stewmac. They call them Dragon rasps. Take a peak there.

I have never use one of these Auriou rasps, nor am I likely to - but their process and attention to detail sure is impressive.

Normally I'm sceptical about quality claims. But my local luthier (building for 35 years) advised me to buy one of these. He has the small and little for at least 10 years and told me they are among his most favorite tools. And still sharp after intensive use. FWIW.

I am not saying that this is not a good tool, it however is not a Nicholson, Grobet or Auriou I am only suggesting it may be over priced.

This is the response I just got from SM asking for brand and origin

Thank you for contacting us. This rasp is sourced in Asia to our specifications. I'm sorry, but we cannot give out our supplier information for the items we sell.
