I have to agree I think it is only a cosmetic concern.

Just bumping this to see if there are any new thoughts on it. I'm thinking of trying it on the guitar I'm starting next week.

Talking off the top here, no math -- but it would seem to me that the location of the top bolt is the problem(?) The arm of the neck is a lever of sorts, so that upper bolt placement should be as close to the arm as possible, the neck in the picture presents a bit of a challenge since the heel shape limits the practical location of the bolt holes. Now one could use the Taylor approach and make the finger board extension part of the structure and add fasteners from inside through the extra large neck block.

Right Ken. If we are going to make bolts that challenge tradition this much, then the neck as a whole ought to be easily removable for adjustments. External bolts plus a glued down fingerboard just does not make sense.

I'm really old school I guess. I haven't really gotten into the whole bolt on idea on acoustic guitars. I understand the ease and time saved over the old mortise and tenon. Which eventually are all going to fail and have to be reset. Althought the little parlor guitar I re made for the little girl I screwed the neck on and into the neck block. Saved me lots of time. I just aren't used to the modern ways I guess. If you do a good job on the connection I guess it doesn't matter how it's attached. I can sure see how a factory would choose to go with the bolt on method. Time is money..02cents

Here is a pic of the heel shape I will be carving.
Does this look like the top bolt would be in a better place?
