Is this a very thin headstock or what?

It looks to me like a headstock just about the thickness of the binding - or are my eyes deceiving me?
If it is that thin, is it too thin?

Deceiving photo Dave. If it were really thin, the tuning machine buttons would be directly below the post, or at least more-so. Since they are diagonally to the left by a fair amount, I'd say that the headstock is the usual thickness.

That does look a little odd. You can see better angles here, though: http://yamamotoguitar.com/models.htm.

His website kind of explains why it looks so much different. Actually, the centerline of the neck is shifted somewhat toward the base strings.
I'll stick my neck out and say I believe it IS that narrow.

I see what you're saying Ray - I was actually talking about the thickness of the headplate and headstock looking like it is less than the 1/2" +/- that I'm used to seeing.

Was that 'sticking your neck out' a play on words, mon ami? :-)
