Hi all.
Have just routed the truss rod channel on my first neck. I know it's not the strongest way to have the truss rod access but it's the way I'm going to do it. I've simple run the channel straight out through the headstock and now looking at my old gibson it looks like that's not how they did it. Any advice/ experience?
Also, what is the purpose of the strip of wood on top of the rod its self?
lastly, the rod i have is open down one side, obviously I don't want glue to get in there so I need to tape it up before installing right?
Thanks all,
Mike

Pictures?
The wood cap can have different purposes depending on the style of the truss rod. True Gibson style truss rod slot has a curve that loads the rod so the tensionis applied in the proper direction, the cap also has the same curve profile.

Re: headstock truss rod access
Sorry not clear at all? Is that a channel to put in a Martin style rod backwards? Usually the channel for that rod is slightly deeper and the wood strip is a just a filler.

Mike,
As I see it, you do not have just a od, like the old ones. But a rod in a U-tube.
For that you will be ok with a staight channel like yours. But it makes the area vulnarable though.
