Side Sanding

This doesn't apply to Ken's binding routers...however, I wound up with a bit of an issue with some mahogany and this seemed to solve the problem.
Any comments good or bad welcome...just and idea... for all I know it's been posted somewhere and I'm a little late...:>)

Excellent!! -- plus its an idea that D E did not claims as his own.

I would add that in addition to feeling for the waves I make pencil marks/lines (black or white) perpendicular to the side. Once you begin to sand you'll know right away if you have a low spot.

Pretty good idea. My sides improved when I made a long 1" dowel sander and hold the body in my Troji.

Good video. Sanding the side level before binding is one of the most important lesson I have learned (the hard way.) One does not want to be sanding the sides flat with installed bindings. The bonding will start to thin. Another trick that I have seen, is to cut a bit into the sides when trimming the top and back after closing the box. Instead of doing a flush cut just route into the rims a bit; shallower than the bindings. That way when you are truing the sides the top and back are out of the way it will be easier to sand square.
