Stamping center joint reinforcement strips

Post by Daniel P » Wed Dec 04, 2013 12:47 pm

I know the modern approach in some factories is to laser engrave their mark on center joint reinforcement strips.

I do a bit of letterpress printing and tried using a photopolymer plate and mini arbor press to stamp the strip, without much luck. I'm guessing I need to use finer detail to cut into the wood.

Are any of you marking your builds with a stamp or punch?
What is the preferred method?

I use an old fashioned woodburner with pointed tip and freehand my last name and the date on the joint reinforcement. Never have understood why it is OK to paste in a large paper label on top of all that fancy tonewood, though it probably is.
