Can have quite an effect on cross grain stiffness. It would not be wood that suited me.

I'd use it but I think I would keep it slightly on the thick side as opposed to the thin side.

Well it's being built. Ended up about 3.2 mm. L00 with light alpine spruce bracing. Light gauge strings planned. Box has great tap tone and plenty of air movement at the sound hole with lovely reclaimed mahogany back and sides. There will be pics and sounds when all done.

Lots of great guitars built with off quarter wood. It just becomes a bit of a compromise if you are looking for maximum strength and lightest weight out of a particular piece of wood.
