Thanks Ken I just went online and ordered two pillow block bearings. Very easy to deal with a real snap. Also picked up a nice 1"rod at my local Fastenal store. I have to get a 5"hole saw tomorrow at home depot. It's less then two blocks from where I live. Thanks to Kyle for his help. Maybe I'll get this thing wrapped up this next week. My buddy is running 220 to my shop this weekend. I have all that stuff I need. We'll put a guard on it,increase the size of the sanding drum. Other then the adjusters that should finish it. The larger rod,pillow bearings,larger drum are all deviations from the original plans. But Randle and I both think the beefing it up is a good idea. Oh yeah gotta put some dust control on it also.

Boy...you ignore a thread for a few weeks because you have nothing to add about "bearing RPMs" and you miss quite the saga!

I might be late to the party, but I'm glad that your wife is doing better. I broke my foot a couple of years back and needed surgery to fix it. I was on crutches for weeks...hated every minute of it. Sitting still is fun for a couple of hours, but after that, I just wanted to build guitars!
Glad you are making progress on the sander again too. You wont regret building it. My drum sander gets used as much or more than any other power tool in my shop. Most every piece of the guitar except the neck goes through it at some point. You will be happy you built it.

Thanks Tony. Yep wife is sitting here getting better every day. We just got back from getting her nails done. So you know she's a happy camper. Her soap opera is coming on in 20 minutes. Friday is a big day for soap operas got to leave you hanging for the weekend.
I just ordered the Velcro backing for my sander as I've increased the size of the drum. So I'll be returning this one piece. Have to switch one of the pulleys 3/4" to 1". Seems like progress is so slow. So many things you just can't run to the store and buy. At least you can order online. Doesn't take too long.

Lonnie, here are some pics. Happy to try to answer any questions you have. First pic is the dust cover with the hole for the shop vac. This works quite well for the amount of use mine sees. The second pic is the drum with paper installed. Yeah I know it's just held on by tape. I tried the tape for the initial trial run and it worked, so why not? The last pic is of the table adjustment thingy (getting technical terms here). I used some 3/4" all thread rod. I welded a nut onto a piece of plate for a handle. No reason you couldn't epoxy a nut to a piece of hardwood. Hope this helps some.

Kyle,thank you very much for the pictures. Glad to see the dust cover. I see it doubles as a guard for your top pulley. I've spent much of my day running around the county replacing pulley's (3/4' for 1''). Also increasing my drum to 5 inch diameter. Ordered the bearings last night. Got the extra Velcro ordered today. We're running the 220 wire to the shop tomorrow. Wiring the switch,box,etc. Get the motor running and cut the new rounds for the drum,and install the drum on the new through rod. I hope all my parts come in so I can complete it this coming week. If I run into any trouble I'll PM you.

To my great happiness I saw the UPS guy pull into my driveway this morning. He had my 1"Piller Block Bearings. Soooo I'm able to continue on this sander. Got all the new 5" Rounds ready to go only need to put them onto the rod. Need to re-fabricate a little to make sure I have a more solid surface to attach the bearings too. Tomorrow I'll put the rounds onto the rod. I had to quit today as my wife needs help to get her shower. So first things first. But I'm happy to be back on it.
