Yup, that's a must. Also a hood so we can collect the dust so I don't have to breathe it. Not quite a done deal as of yet. A few more thingies have to be installed. But at least I'm finally beginning to make some progress.
Two different companies sent me an email and a catalog with thickness sanders on the cover. I wonder how they found out. Lol

Yeah, you can probably get a guard for minimum wage so no one steals that machine. :>) It looks like a monster sander by the way.

So true Kevin so true. I was talking with my partner in crime on this he agrees that it would be a good idea to build a guard for it. We have a problem. The threaded rod that we got to go thru the sanding drum does not seem to be perfectly straight. Causing a bit of a wobble. I don't like that as not only would it make a stupid noise but I don't think the sander would be precise. So were going to go ahead with what we've got going on here till we finish it. If we still have a wobble then we 'll get a machined rod that is perfectly straight.

Lonnie, other than guitars my drum sander was one of the most fun things to build. It gets used more than I thought it would. I'm at work so I am unable to view your pics, I'll take a look when I get home this evening. If I can make a suggestion on the shaft, you want the thickest rod you can put in that's reasonably priced. I found a 1" rod was priced well and the bearings were affordable as well. It's my guess that the threaded rod will not be stable enough. Here's a pic of the one I built before I put paper on the drum. The dust cover is laying behind the drum.

Thanks Kyle,nice sander you have there. I'm beginning to think you right on that threaded rod. I'm probably going to have to get a machined rod. This one doesn't seem to be straight. I can't have that. So you say I need to go up to one inch? That's doable. Probably the wise thing to do as well

Kyle if you could post some pics of your sander that would be super. I know your at work. It's not to late to make alterations in mine. Where did you score those bearings for instance. Did you have your rod made etc. Appreciate it.
