#7 Black limba and Lutz spruce Dread Finished!!!

Post by TonyinNYC » Fri Feb 03, 2012 1:29 am

I started this guitar a couple of months ago, but it has been going slowly.
Here is a quick recap to get things up to date:
Joined the back(Love this wood!):

Assembled the rim, glued in side supports:

Made some braces:

Made a top with a really nice camphor burl rosette. Braced said top to a 40' radius.

Aforementioned top decided it wanted to be radiused the other way:

Experienced extreme disappointment:

Made a new 4 piece top:

Made a new rosette.

In this pic, the wood ring has been inlayed and glued and I have routed the channel for the outer b/w/b purfling
strip:

That's where I am now. The b/w/b purfling around the rosette is being glued in with TiteBond and while I could take a pic, it isnt a very exciting pic, so I will end for tonight.
Thanks for looking!

Got home from work and took the clamps off the rosette. It is not scraped down yet, but it looks alright.

More to come later tonight if all goes well.

Thanks David!
Things went well. Here is the rosette scraped flush:

Tonight I plan to cut the soundhole, thin the top almost to its final thickness, and begin bracing.

Got the top thinned down to .105" which I think might be too thick because this top is incredibly stiff. But, I am uncomfortable making it thinner. If I feel it needs to go thinner once it is all braced, I will do something, but until then, it will stay at .105".
Glued the X-brace as well. A pic:

Thats all for tonight.

Love that wood Tony, keep the pics coming! Doing a great job!
So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.
