The veneer doesn't have any real effect like that. The highly figured Braz rosewood is pretty good, I understand, but probably, Strad did not have access to any :-)

I'll bet your right To y. I've ( again this may be hearsay) that Strad would actually go to the harbor and meet the ships that came in to select his wood) this may be true but my knowledge of Italian Geography leaves me at a loss as to how far Cremona would be from the harbor. These stories I've heard are from a Double Bass Viol builder. Don't know how accurate they are but he did have quite an extensive library concerning Strad. But even the books would be hearsay wouldn't they? I mean every one and their dog probably has something to say about old Antonio. Best advice I was ever given was from my Bro in law. He said ( when I started college) never pick Shakespheare as a subject to write on in you English class. All them Prof 's are expert on him. So I chose Shelly instead. Probably about the same analogy.

Bridge on, tuners installed, neck fit.
No buffing yet.
Will probably string it up Saturday!

Looking good!

That will be fun to string up.

Did you make the 12th fret neck? I see a few neck in the background too.

I bought a roughed-in neck from Hanelei Moon - it comes very rough and blocky, but saves a lot of money, and I enjoy shaping it and all that.

Nope this guitar is for a good friend of mine, who really likes the old 30's style ladder-braced instruments. This is my take on the concept. I hope it sounds good.
